The Brambles

Description: Deep within the bramble there is beauty everywhere. The flowers of the wild rose compete for the attention of a lovely butterfly. The fruit of the raspberry and blackberry glisten in the sunshine. Even the spider’s web may be called a lovely trap. A wonderful design, approximately 5 inches by 7 inches that is suitable for framing. A supply list is included, but substitutions may be made. Use your stash to create a unique creation.

Techniques: The main focus of this design is the various ways to use wire. Start with a basic leaf that uses paper covered wire then advance to fancy leaves, flowers, and butterfly wings. You will also work on two styles of berries. The blackberries and raspberries are padded and shaded by two different methods. The stitches utilized are backstitch, blanket stitch, bullion, cast-on stitch, chain stitch, couching, feather stitch, fly stitch, French knots, detached chain, long and short stitch, needleweaving, pistil, satin, spider web, stem, Ghiordes knot, and wheatear.

Pansy Fields

Description: As the pansies dance in the breeze I am amazed at the wide variety of colors and markings displayed on this delicate flower. It seems that no two flowers are truly alike. Dancing above the pansies a Red Admiral butterfly reflects the dramatic colors and markings of the pansies. Providing a contrast to this drama is the flower of the elegant Crane’s-bill. A beautiful 4 inch by 6 inch design that is suitable for framing. A supply list is included, but substitutions may be made. Use your stash to create a unique creation.

Techniques: The techniques emphasized are several methods for using wire and realistic shading. The stitches utilized are backstitch, blanket stitch, bullion, chain stitch, couching, feather stitch, fly stitch, French knots, detached chain, detached buttonhole, long and short stitch, needleweaving, pistil, satin, stem, Ghiordes knot, and wheatear.

Berry Wreath

Description: The wreath features three types of berries; blueberries, currents and blackberries as well as three flowers including a pansy. Also featured is a ladybug and cultured fresh water pearls. The result is an elegant project suitable for framing or mounting in the lid of a box. This is a very good beginner project that gives experience with paper covered and plain wire. A supply list is included, but substitutions may be made. Use your stash to create a unique creation.

Techniques: The two techniques that are emphasized are detached wired elements and several ways to create dimensional effects with beads. The stitches utilized are backstitch, blanket stitch, bullion, chain stitch, couching, feather stitch, fly stitch, French knots, detached chain, long and short stitch, pistil, satin, stem, and wheatear.

Hiding In the Blackberries

Description: During the long hot summer thistle and blackberries compete for space in the meadow. The colorful berries and thistle flowers do not take all of the attention away from the tiny spider living among the berries or the tiny bees investigating the thistle. A charming little piece, 2 inches by 3 inches that is perfect for the lid of a box. A supply list is included, but substitutions may be made. Use your stash to create a unique creation.

Techniques: The two techniques that are emphasized are several methods of padding and Turkey Work.

The Monarch of My Garden

Description: The splendid monarch butterfly with its bold pattern of black and orange is perhaps one of the best known of the butterflies. Stitched in silk using silk shading I have recreated as exactly as possible the distinctive markings of the monarch butterfly. The butterfly appears to be hovering above the beautiful rose. The scarlet rose also is silk. The rose’s center is real metal Gold Milliary couched into place with Soie 100/3. Finished size of design area is round with a 3 ½ inch diameter. Techniques: This design emphasizes the use of wire, silk shading in the leaves and petals, my method for creating the realistic markings on the butterfly and the goldwork. The stitches used in the design include backstitch, blanket stitch, bullion, couching, long and short, pistil, satin, stem, whipped stem, raised stem.

The Carnation Accessories

Description: Delicate pink carnations trail across this collection of three sewing accessories. The carnations are accented by a variety of interesting creatures that are scattered throughout the design. Learn several of the simple techniques used in raised embroidery while creating gorgeous carnations and realistic creatures. The design also demonstrates a method to combine counted thread with raised embroidery. While completing the set you will have the opportunity to experience a variety of the wonderful silk and linen threads. Accessories are scissors fob, pinwheel, needle book. Black Raspberry Scissors Fob

Description: A two-sided round scissors fob that features Black Raspberries, and a spider on its web. A lovely project for the first timer.

Techniques: The raspberries demonstrate two methods of padding. Stitches used include the Palestrina knot, Fly stitch, Stem stitch, and French knots.

Ground Fabric: Bay Rum 32 count Jobelan

Autumn Still Life

Description: This is a great introduction to stumpwork. Using simple techniques a dimensional pumpkin and pear are stitched on duchess satin. Glass beads are used for the clusters of grapes and garnets are used for cherries. A bee, spider and his web, and butterfly finish the charming design. The entire design is only 2 inches by 3 inches.

Techniques: The techniques emphasized are the use of padding and realistic shading. The stitches that are utilized are Backstitch, blanket stitch, bullion, couching, French knots, long and short, satin, stem, slanted stem, whipped stem, tent stitch.

Pansies For Your Lapel

Description: Create a wonderful accessory for your wardrobe while learning the basics about using wire to create detached petals. You will work on a pansy and leaf that will be finished to fit into the sterling silver vase pin. The pin may also be finished with a pin back. The center of the pansy is a genuine yellow jade bead. Adequate supplies are provided for a purple, pink and wine pansy. The pansies are so quick and easy you will want to complete all three. The finished size of design area is a one-inch diameter flower that is finished to fit in a sterling silver vase pin.

Techniques: Emphasis is placed on the use of wire, the silk shading on the petals, and finishing the petals to be worn in the vase pin. The stitches used in the design include blanket stitch, couching, long and short, satin, stem, whipped stem.

Ground Fabric: 200-thread count muslin in ivory color.

Autumn Lapel Pin

Description: The colors of fall inspire the creation of a lovely lapel pin that will compliment any outfit. Autumn leaves are stitched using Silk N Colors and wire. Tiny detailed acorns and realistic buckeyes are created using felt and beads for padding. Adding sparkle to the pin are Swarovski crystals and 14 Kt. Gold beads. The tiny bouquet of leaves and nuts may be mounted in a sterling silver vase pin or finished with a pin back. The finished size of design area is 4 inches by 2 inches including the vase pin.

Techniques: Emphasis is placed on the use of wire in the leaves, the methods for creating a shape using felt, and the use of a bead for padding the buckeye. The stitches used in the design include blanket stitch, rosette stitch, detached buttonhole, satin, stem, whipped stem.
