The splendid monarch butterfly with its bold pattern of black and orange is perhaps one of the best-known of the butterflies. Stitched in silk using silk shading I have recreated as exactly as possible the distinctive markings of the monarch butterfly. The butterfly appears to be hovering above the beautiful rose. The scarlet rose also is silk. The rose’s center is real metal Gold Milliary couched into place with Soie 100/3. Gold Milliary is “Gilt”. Gilt is about half a percent of gold on silver plated copper.
